MISSION STATEMENT
The athletics department will support Alfred University and its mission by providing quality resources and programs that facilitate inclusivity for all those who are participating, engaging, and assisting in our athletics programs. The departmental staff is committed to recognizing our diversity and utilizing our Saxon Cornerstones to ensure everyone attending or participating in an athletic event feels safe and welcome.
Seneca Land Acknowledgment
Alfred University consciously and intentionally recognizes, acknowledges, and honors that it sits on the traditional and ancestral lands of the Onöndowa’ga:’ or “Great Hill People.” With a proud and rich history, the Seneca Nation of Indians, also known as the Keeper of the Western Door, are the largest and westernmost of the Six Nations that constitute the Haudenosaunee Confederacy of Nations, a democratic government that pre-dates the United States Constitution.

AU Black Lives Matter Resolution
Honoring Warren Sutton
In June of 2019, Alfred University Athletics celebrated men's basketball alum Warren Sutton '61 following the team's Championship season. Sutton, an African-American, withdrew from AU in the fall of 1959 over backlash of dating the Caucasian daughter of the University treasurer. With the approval of the Board of Trustees, Sutton has been awarded a Doctor of Human Letters degree by the University.
Honoring Abigail Allen
In April of 2021, Alfred University celebrated the life of Abigail Allen, who dedicated her life to the women's suffrage movement, by hanging a plaque on the University that honors her contributions. Austin was a speaker at the 1873 Women's Congress in New York City, urging her audience: "Be radical, radical to the core."
